Linda Hawley
County Saddles

In 2007 after spending 12 plus
years in the USA I returned to NZ full of
“evangelistic” enthusiasm for the art of saddle
fitting with my role as County Saddlery’s New
Zealand representative, based in Cambridge. A rider
since a toddler, I was a keen pony clubber and
competitor. The greatest enjoyment coming from
bringing on young horses and successes included
Brigadier, a Dutch Warmblood latterly taken to Grand
Prix by Australian international Ricky McMillan, and
the eventer Graffiti Grey.
Whilst in the USA I decided to change my life style,
even though I had a great life, something was
missing. The change would have to place me back
around horses, it would have to be something I was
going to love. This led me to the Maryland HQ of
County Saddles, a leading brand crafted in the heart
of the saddle industry in Walsall, England. (The
brand used to be available in New Zealand ‘on the
shelf’ prior to the company deciding some years ago
to concentrate on custom, made-to-order saddles).
County needed an agent for Southern California and
that was a region I had always wanted to explore. I
decided this was something I could do with
enthusiasm, based on my wealth of horsemanship
skills, knowledge and love for horses. I undertook
the Master Saddlers’ Association saddle fitter
course, together with intensive training at County
Saddlery, learning about their multiplicity of
saddle options and in their unique solutions for
horse and rider soundness through fitting the right
saddle.
County saddles are still made on the traditional
laminated beech wood trees, flocked with pure wool
and covered with the finest leather. The combination
of County’s quality product, and my expertise in
choosing the right saddle from the 4 dressage and 4
jumping models, with total customisation for both
horse and rider where required, ensures maximisation
of the horse’s performance and the rider’s comfort.
It’s a personal service, by appointment only and I
am determined to see County become as popular here
as it is with riders through Olympic level in the
USA and Europe. With top riders in NZ , Kallista
Field, Penny Castle, Debbie Barke, Matthew Grayling,
Hannah Appleton, Nicoli Fife (to name a few) already
experiencing the ‘County’ difference I think I am
heading in the right direction.

Anne Hjorth Show Rider and
Judge

Horses have always been a big
part of Anne's life starting with ponies and
competing in showing, round the ring and show
jumping her B Grade Show jumping ponies, then
progressing through to hacks. She grew up in a
family involved with thoroughbreds, showing and
hunting. Her father was an owner-trainer and both
her parents bred racehorses. Everyone thoroughbred
that started at the races had a win.
Anne has been an RAS Judge for
more than 10 years and in recent years a Grade 1
Tutor Judge. Has had judging appointments at the New
Zealand Horse of the Year, Queensland Owner/Rider
Horse of the Year, plus many A&P show's within New
Zealand.
She has had great success in the show ring with all
the horses she has produced off the track, the most
recent being the now 6 year old Savile Row, who is
in first season was runner up Saddle Hunter of the
Year as a 5 year old in 2008.
She continues to enjoy finding nice types off the
track and producing them for the show ring.

Dr Liza Scneider Holistic
Veterinarian
EBT Examiner

Growing up in South Africa,
Liza loved looking after a diversity of animals and
learning about the wonders of nature. Being
particularly active on the sports field, she
occasionally sustained sporting injuries which an
Osteopath would attend to, getting her back into
competition much more quickly than the doctor
thought possible. This, in addition to her sickly
brother being treated successfully with homeopathy,
instilled in Liza from an early age that “where
there’s a will there’s a way” and by respecting
natural principles long term health can be easily
sustained.
After qualifying as a vet in 2000 at Ondestepoort,
South Africa, Liza immigrated to New Zealand,
settling in Auckland for three years. During this
time Liza worked primarily in small animal
veterinary practice, gaining experience and
proficiency in all aspects but especially enjoying
surgery and emergency medicine. She also provided
veterinary consultancy services to various companies
pioneering veterinary hyperbaric medicine and equine
interval hypoxic training in New Zealand. Throughout
her career she has sought and applied complementary
and natural therapies which are easy to learn,
practical to apply and highly effective at assisting
her patients to heal.
In 2003, Liza moved to Tauranga and established
Holistic Veterinary Services which integrates all
the advantages of conventional veterinary medicine
with natural and complementary therapies. Holistic
Veterinary Services has grown exponentially over the
years and during 2008 has been the proud winner of
two business awards recognizing the exceptional
contribution which it makes to the community.
Liza is passionate about “helping animals of all
kinds” and has a special interest in wildlife
rehabilitation, having established a charitable
trust, ARRC (Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation
Centre), to fulfil this role in the Bay of Plenty.
Liza is also the author of “You CAN Do It!!!” (A
book for people about losing body fat, nutrition,
exercise and maintaining optimal health) as well as
several articles relating to fitness and nutrition
and various veterinary topics published in a variety
of magazines and newspapers. She is also a regular
speaker at seminars conducted for the promotion of
the above book as well as education on human
nutrition, healthy lifestyle habits, and her work as
a vet. Liza has featured regularly on the radio as
the Newstalk ZB vet across the Bay of Plenty and has
also been on The Good morning television show. She
delights in educating, inspiring and entertaining
people about sustainable healthcare and the
importance of preserving our natural heritage.
